Zamfara Anti-Terror Operations: Troops Kill 3, Reclaim Looted Food and Rustled Animals
Troops of the Nigerian Army (NA), in collaboration with Zamfara State Community Protection Guards, successfully eliminated three terrorists and recovered various items, including rustled sheep, arms, and ammunition, during operations on Monday in Zamfara State.
The Army stated, “In Rukudawa Village, Zurmi Local Government Area, troops launched an offensive operation targeting the hideout of notorious terrorist kingpin Gwaska Dan Karami. The encounter resulted in the elimination of two terrorists and the discovery of a terrorists’ warehouse stocked with looted food supplies, which was destroyed on site.
“In the Mayanchi general area of Maru Local Government Area, troops on patrol intercepted and engaged marauding terrorists who had rustled a flock of sheep. One terrorist was neutralized in the ensuing firefight, and the rest fled, abandoning one AK-47 rifle, a magazine with three rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition, two motorcycles, and 410 rustled sheep. The troops recovered all items, including a pair of military camouflage and a Mobile Police uniform. The rescued sheep have been handed over to the Committee on Recovery of Rustled Animals in Gusau.
“Additionally, troops intercepted terrorists along Kairu road in Gummi Local Government Area, thwarting their mission and recovering one AK-47 rifle.
“These operations demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens in Zamfara State. The troops’ gallantry and professionalism have resulted in the elimination of terrorists, the recovery of looted items, and the restoration of peace in the affected areas,” as reported by Enugu Reporters.
In addition to these successful operations, the Nigerian Army has intensified its efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and disrupt their supply chains. Recent intelligence reports indicate that these operations have significantly weakened the operational capabilities of several terrorist groups in the region. The Army continues to work closely with local communities, leveraging local intelligence to identify and target terrorist hideouts effectively.
The Nigerian Army has also announced plans to increase patrols and surveillance in other high-risk areas within Zamfara State to prevent further terrorist activities. The Army’s commitment to restoring peace and security is further evidenced by the ongoing training and equipping of the Community Protection Guards, enhancing their capacity to support military operations and protect their communities.
Furthermore, the Federal Government has pledged additional support to the Nigerian Army, promising more resources and advanced technology to bolster the fight against terrorism. This includes the provision of drones for surveillance, advanced communication equipment, and increased funding for community-based intelligence gathering.
These comprehensive efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure lasting peace and stability in Zamfara State and other regions affected by terrorism. The Nigerian Army’s resolve, combined with community cooperation and government support, is gradually turning the tide against terrorism, offering hope for a safer and more secure future for all citizens.
