Terry G’s Comeback: The Akpako Master Returns with New Music

Just when fans started wondering about his whereabouts, Gabriel Oche Amanyi, famously known as Terry G in the entertainment industry, is back and ready to reclaim his spot. The “Free Madness” hitmaker has signed a new investment deal with Ogbuefi Udochukwu’s Basic Entertainment, committing to work with the label for three years.

At the signing ceremony held at Basic Entertainment’s office in Lagos, Udochukwu, also known as The Fire, explained the decision to partner with Terry G, highlighting mutual benefits for both parties.

“We’re here today to sign an investment deal with Terry G. Basic Entertainment launched last year with Skull Feez and Elgoveen; we are still new in the game. Bringing Terry into our family under this investment deal will be profitable for both sides. Terry is already a brand, but Basic Entertainment aims to rebrand him and return him to the limelight. His style of music is currently trending, so we are excited as a company to sign this deal with Terry G,” Udochukwu stated.

Terry G, who arrived with his management team, including the CEO of Ozone Media, expressed that the agreement would elevate his music career.

“We want to move forward, and to do so, we need a team; you cannot achieve anything in life without teamwork. We have someone supporting us genuinely, not just as a businessman, but with a personal relationship. However, we recognize this is also a business relationship. That’s why we’re formalizing this partnership and making our mission known to the world,” Terry G said.

Regarding the benefits of the deal, Terry G explained, “It’s not just about benefiting me; it’s about benefiting us. I’m already a brand. What I need is to enhance our movement and ensure we have an agreement that keeps that intact.”

For his fans eagerly awaiting his return to music, the dreadlocked singer reassured them, saying, “The fans are waiting; they are anticipating. It’s better to hold off on releasing content until it meets their expectations. With an investor involved, there are significant benefits.”

Although Terry G is known for “Free Madness,” he hinted at a different approach this time around.

“In life, we grow. As we age, we evolve; we don’t remain stagnant. We always seek progress, and by God’s grace, I have children now. I was the one who started the whole ‘madness’ trend, which was highly criticized then. But in the end, I sang it and prophesied that ‘this nonsense would make sense.’ At that time, no one understood my aim; I just wanted to create a unique style. But you can’t keep doing the same thing. Now, I’m different. What’s popular now is what people criticized me for back then. I hope they can understand that I was just taking a risk,” he reflected.

When asked if he felt he came too early in the industry, he responded, “Just like Jesus Christ came at his time, we all have our unique gifts and positions. It was difficult being ahead of the curve, but my humility and genuine approach have kept me going. I set a pace that others are now following.”

Regarding the online comparisons between himself and Naira Marley, he commented, “I don’t get carried away by comparisons. The music industry is a game, and understanding helps you flow with everyone. Naira Marley being compared to me shows that he’s trying to capture the image I created. Anyone who acts crazy is likely to be compared to Terry G.”

As for international record labels now eyeing Nigerian artists, Terry G remarked, “They’re hustlers, not giants. I turned down Sony Music because it didn’t pay. As a celebrity in Nigeria, you’re already international. It’s all about how you portray yourself. Be sure before signing any deal; don’t be pressured by the spotlight.”

During his time away from the music scene, Terry G focused on fatherhood, with his son attending school in the United Kingdom.

“He’s seven now, playing in both Chelsea and Arsenal academies. I wanted to play football before music took over. My son’s passion for football is where I’ve been focusing. Your child should be greater than you, so if you’re smart, you understand that when new kids come up, it’s time to support them.”

Terry G is enthusiastic about his partnership with Basic Entertainment.

“I’m thrilled because I’m working with familiar faces. They know my journey, and my mistakes. My initial fame came with pressure and controversy. Now, with this new deal, I assure you, it’s going to be worth it.”
