Political Solution Needed for Nnamdi Kanu Following Killing of 5 Soldiers in Abia
Atiku Abubakar Condemns Killing of Soldiers in Abia, Calls for Political Solution on Nnamdi Kanu
The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has strongly condemned the recent killing of five soldiers deployed to protect citizens in Abia State. The soldiers were tragically murdered by gunmen at a military checkpoint located at Obikabia Junction, Ogbor Hill area, amidst the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to honor those who perished in the Biafra war.
Reacting to the incident on his X platform, the former Vice President emphasized the urgent need for a political solution concerning the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Atiku believes that addressing Kanu’s situation politically would help mitigate the rising tensions in the Southeast region.
He stated: “The violence that resulted in the killing of soldiers and civilians in Abia State on Thursday is deeply regrettable and condemned. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives. May their souls rest in peace. The impact of yesterday’s sit-at-home order on students writing WAEC examinations is also a significant concern.
“The anonymity of the so-called Unknown Gun Men, who use this cover to perpetrate violence, must be lifted to distinguish criminal elements from legitimate agitators.
“Therefore, without prejudicing ongoing legal processes, I believe it is time to explore a political resolution to the issues surrounding Nnamdi Kanu and other related matters. This approach could help defuse the highly volatile situation in the region, leading to a win-win outcome for all parties involved.”
Atiku’s call underscores the importance of seeking non-violent and inclusive solutions to complex socio-political issues, aiming to restore peace and stability in the affected areas.
