Osun Protest Organizers Deliberate Next Steps After Tinubu’s Appeal

Protest organizers in Osun have announced plans to meet and decide the next course of action following President Bola Tinubu’s appeal for protesters to suspend their activities and engage in dialogue.

Mr. Ajala Adetunji, the Osun Coordinator of the Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens, which is spearheading the protest, stated that the presidential appeal would be reviewed by all involved in the protest.

“The protest is not a one-man show, especially as Osun’s case is concerned,” Adetunji said. “As far as the presidential address this morning is concerned, Mr. President did not address any of our concerns. The president was not specific on what the government will do to address the demands of the youth.”

Adetunji further criticized the president’s call for dialogue, describing it as an open-ended appeal without clear indicators of actionable steps. “However, we are still going to meet to deliberate but as it stands, the protest continues in Osun,” he added.

Waheed Lawal, Chairman of the Osun People’s Coalition Society, another group participating in the protest, echoed similar sentiments. He emphasized that the presidential appeal would be discussed by the various groups involved in the protest.

“The protest is an all-Nigerian protest, and Nigerians have to decide the next course of action,” Lawal stated. “However, I feel that the demands of Nigerians and the protesters were not addressed by the president, but the masses will decide what will be done next.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that President Tinubu, during his national address on Sunday, appealed to the protest organizers to suspend their activities in light of the recent killings and destruction experienced over the past three days.

Despite the president’s appeal, protesters converged on Freedom Park in Osogbo on Sunday and marched through the streets, continuing the nationwide protest.
