Sanwo-Olu Promises Robust Support for IT Industry

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering policies that drive economic growth and expand job opportunities, particularly within the information technology (IT) and e-commerce sectors.

During the recent unveiling of the Jumia Integrated Warehouse located along the Oshodi-Apapa Motorway in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, emphasized the crucial role Lagos plays in the economic landscape of Nigeria and Africa.

Lagos as an Economic Powerhouse

“This warehouse is a significant milestone not only for Jumia but also for the entire logistics and e-commerce landscape in Nigeria and Africa at large. It affirms Lagos not just as a hub of commerce but as the heartbeat of Nigeria’s economy and a beacon of opportunity and growth. It symbolizes our commitment to fostering an environment where businesses can thrive, innovate, and contribute to the prosperity of our society,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Digital Transformation and Infrastructure

Sanwo-Olu underscored the state’s readiness to support the digital transformation of commerce. “The future of commerce is digital, and Lagos is ready to support those who are willing to embrace this change. Our administration remains dedicated to creating a conducive environment for businesses to flourish, with robust infrastructure, favorable policies, and unwavering support,” he added.

Mrs. Ambrose-Medebem highlighted Jumia’s impressive growth in Nigeria, noting the company’s transformation into a major e-commerce platform that has revolutionized shopping and business transactions in the region. “This new warehouse, with its vast capacity, will significantly enhance Jumia’s ability to serve its customers efficiently, meeting the ever-growing demands of the e-commerce sector. It is a bold economic step forward in ensuring that goods can be delivered faster, more reliably, and at a lower cost. It will also create numerous jobs and provide skill development opportunities, further strengthening our local workforce,” she remarked.

The establishment of Jumia’s new warehouse represents more than just an infrastructural achievement; it is a testament to the dynamic and rapidly evolving business environment of Lagos. The facility is expected to not only streamline Jumia’s operations but also stimulate the local economy by providing employment and upskilling opportunities for residents.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration continues to prioritize the creation of a business-friendly environment that supports innovation and growth. With initiatives like these, Lagos is poised to maintain its position as a leading economic hub, not just in Nigeria, but across Africa.
