In a shocking incident, a 35-acre cassava farmland in Adao Village, near Alabata, Ogun State, was reportedly set ablaze by a group of herders for reasons yet to be disclosed.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the incident occurred on February 19, 2025, and was formally reported the following day by Mr. Ogunbayo Adewale of Raka Village.

Mr. Adewale recounted that upon visiting his farm at around 4:40 PM on the day of the incident, he discovered that the entire farmland had been torched. To his dismay, several herds of cattle were also grazing on what remained of his plantation, with numerous cassava plants already uprooted.

As he approached, the herders reportedly commanded the cattle to flee. However, in a dramatic turn of events, Mr. Adewale managed to capture one of the cows and brought it to the police station as evidence.

Responding swiftly, the Ogun Police Command stated that the Divisional Police Officer of FUNAAB Harmony deployed grassroots policing strategies to de-escalate tensions and prevent a potential tribal conflict.

Authorities are now investigating the matter, as affected farmers and locals call for justice and protection against further destruction of farmlands.
