Breaking: Heritage Bank is Not in Distress, CBN Assures Public
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially addressed and dismissed the false and malicious rumors circulating on social media that suggest Heritage Bank is experiencing financial distress and is unable to fulfill its obligations to depositors.
In a statement released by Isaac Okorafor, the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, the CBN clarified that Heritage Bank is financially sound and depositors can continue their transactions without any concern. Okorafor emphasized, “Heritage Bank is not in distress and its depositors should go about their transactions without fear.”
No Nigerian Bank is in Distress
To dispel any further doubts, the CBN reaffirmed that no bank in Nigeria is currently in distress. The statement underscored the CBN’s commitment to maintaining the soundness and stability of all financial institutions within the country. “No Nigerian Bank is in distress,” the statement reiterated.
Commitment to Depositors and Economic Stability
The CBN highlighted its role as the industry regulator, which includes a steadfast duty to protect depositors and ensure the overall health of the Nigerian economy. This involves rigorous monitoring and supervision of all licensed financial institutions to guarantee their stability and soundness.
“The CBN has a duty to depositors, in particular, and the economy, in general, to ensure the soundness of all financial institutions. We therefore wish to assure all depositors of the safety of their deposits,” said Okorafor.
Ongoing Supervision and Stability
The statement also reassured the public of the CBN’s ongoing commitment to banking system stability. The CBN will continue to engage in constant monitoring and supervision of all licensed institutions to uphold the integrity and resilience of the banking sector.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria wishes to reiterate that the banking system remains resilient enough to weather the current economic storm,” Okorafor concluded.
