Abia State Residents Jubilate as Streetlights Are Installed for the First Time
The residents of Abia State celebrated with immense joy as they witnessed the installation of streetlights in their area for the first time.
In a now-viral video, mostly women were seen dancing through the streets, expressing their excitement over the newly installed streetlights. The project, executed by the state governor, Alex Otti, saw the streetlights illuminated on May 22, 2024, according to a resident who shared the video.
This is not the first instance of street celebrations under Governor Otti’s administration. Since his inauguration last May, residents have frequently expressed their joy over significant changes. In February this year, they celebrated several days of uninterrupted power supply following the installation of the Geometric Power Plant. One of the plant’s four turbines was switched on Sunday, February 25, 2024, allowing some sections of Aba to enjoy continuous electricity.
A social media user, Chude, shared a video of a resident celebrating the constant electricity, writing, “Aba residents now enjoy 24/7 electricity. Aba is currently the most thriving city for living and investing in Nigeria. Governance is not rocket science.” In the video, a lady can be heard exclaiming in both English and Igbo, “Light choke, Aba to the world. How many days now? See as A.C everywhere just dey chill.”
President Bola Tinubu launched the Geometric Power Plant in Aba, 20 years after the project was initiated by former Minister of Power, Barth Nnaji. Governor Alex Otti highlighted the project as a testament to the power of dreaming big, stating that with this power project, Aba is now open to national and international businesses.
The jubilant reactions of Abia residents have sparked discussions online. Some users questioned why people are celebrating such basic amenities in 2024, while others praised the development and commended Governor Otti for his efforts in improving the state’s infrastructure. Watch Video Below
